Home >> Personalisation Go Back

Personalising an item with your organisation’s logo or name is a very positive way of promoting your corporate identity and brand image – provided it is done to a high standard. There are a number of methods for personalising garments, and Portlantis will use its experience to advise you on the most appropriate way to apply your particular design.

Logos are embroidered to a very high standard on our in-house Tajima machines. We take your design and turn it into an embroidery file via a skilled process known as Digitising. Our digitisers use industry standard software and apply their knowledge to ensure perfect representation of the logo on the surface of the fabric. Up to 15 different coloured threads can be used in any one design, and each logo is stitched out for your approval prior to application on the garments. We use Madeira threads, and these can be matched via pantone references to your design – so exact reproduction of your colours is guaranteed. Almost all garments can be embroidered but the most popular are polo shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, fleeces, knitwear, bodywarmers, jackets and caps.

Screen Printing

Generally used for larger volume orders and ideal for bigger logos, screen printing is the method of choice for promotional clothing, especially T Shirts. A maximum of 12 colours is crisply replicated via photographic reproduction on semi-automatic presses, and a number of specialist techniques such as foil and phosphorescent prints are available.

Heat Sealing

For small to medium sized runs, it is usually more cost-effective for our customers to heatseal their logo to their garment of choice. Single or dual colour designs are vectorised and sized appropriately before being sent from the specialist software on the PC to the Cutters, where highly accurate blades reproduce your branding from rolled vinyls. A process called Weeding removes superfluous vinyl and our heatpresses are then used to apply your logo to the garment at the correct temperature. Multi-coloured and more complex designs can be digitally printed onto a range of special transfer papers which are pressed onto the garments in exactly the same way as cut vinyl designs. Heat sealed designs can be pre-cut and stored to ensure rapid turnaround of garments requiring an established logo. Perfect results from heatsealing can be achieved on most garment categories with the exception of fleeces and knitwear.

Direct to Garment Printing

Direct to Garment (DTG) printing is the latest method of digital printing, using child-safe inks to print full colour images directly onto garments. Photographic quality designs are printed in high resolution up to 1200 dpi (dots per inch). DTG is ideal for small runs, especially of multi-coloured designs.
